Honoring the Past. Inspiring the Future.

In 1926, Franklin Elementary first opened its doors with just six classrooms, an office, two restrooms, and a book room — built for $55,200 on land generously donated by two local families on Speedway Street. What began as a small neighborhood school has grown into a cornerstone of our community.

Over the past century, thousands of students have walked Franklin’s halls. Early enrollment records show between 130 and 224 students, and at its peak, nearly 800 students filled the classrooms. In 1951, Franklin became the first elementary school in Wichita Falls to have its own library — a testament to its long-standing commitment to education and opportunity.

Franklin’s story is not just about a building. It’s about generations of families, dedicated teachers and staff, supportive PTA volunteers, and a neighborhood that has grown alongside it. From its first PTA president, Mrs. Harold Murph, to the many parents and community members who continue that legacy today, Franklin has always been strengthened by those who believe in it.

This year, we are proud to celebrate 100 years of impact with a Centennial Celebration on Thursday, March 5 from 5:00–7:00 PM.

The evening will include:

  • School tours

  • Food and refreshments

  • A special city proclamation recognizing this historic milestone

  • Time for alumni, current families, and neighbors to reconnect

Whether you attended Franklin, had children or grandchildren who did, or simply value the role this school plays in our neighborhood, we invite you to join us.

For 100 years, Franklin has been part of our shared story. We look forward to celebrating together as we continue Honoring the past. Inspiring the future.
